Ancillary Tasks

Friday 23rd September

Ancillary tasks

After choosing a main brief, there are three auxiliary tasks, which you need to pick two from to carry out, out of;

  • the font cover to a magazine for the series;
  • a DVD cover for the series
  • a radio advertisement for the magazine
I have chosen to carry out the front cover to a magazine for the series and to create a DVD cover for the series. Which means I can then use everything that I will create within the title sequence.
The two ancillary tasks I have chosen are to create the front cover to a magazine for the series which I am going to adapt from an already existing children TV programme, such as Mona the Vampire or Saved by the Bell . The front cover is going to be for either a children's magazine such as Sugar, Disney Channel magazines or a TV guide which parents will then see and tell their children about this series. However children will also also see the front cover if the magazine, if the parents buy the magazine.
The next ancillary task  that I have chosen is a DVD cover, this is because it will be interesting to edit and create effects as well as having the whole cast on the DVD cover which needs to appeal to the audience if this DVD is advertised within an advert, or is on a supermarket shelf. This means that the main character or characters will all have to be involved on the DVD cover, also, I will also need to create reviews about the DVD for it to sell and appeal to the audience.

Market Place
The market place is were the product will be offered, for example of the title sequence this would be aired at the start of the television programme and would also be shown when this series for this case Mona the Vampire, was sold on DVD. Which then links to the DVD cover and magazine cover, which I am also going to create as part of the ancillary tasks for this project. Already on the market place are existing Mona the Vampire DVD covers for previous series which shows what the competitor are for my developed Mona the vampire DVD cover for the market which will challenged conventions. Although there is a gap in the market for a change and for Mona the Vampire, to be re-branded to encourage a new age of customers.

Draft ideas
The main draft ideas I have for both the DVD cover and the magazine cover the Mona the Vampire series is to take a photo from the around a 100 photos I have taken for my animation for my animation. This means that I can then edited this photo and add text. As if the audience have already seen the title sequence then seeing a photo that the viewer has already sen in the title sequence, will draw the viewer attention to the magazine. As after carrying out research almost all of the magazines that I have looked at which included the cebeebies magazine which uses bright primary colours.  Another draft idea would be to include just the word 'Moan' on the magazine cover, with the actually characters of Lily and Charlie in the back ground, as fag the cat is also on of the main characters in the show I would also like to include the cat on both the DVD and magazine covers.
